The Latvian Sustainability Cluster and Amber Advisory’s collaborative online seminar discussed future requirements and possible solutions related to the introduction of low-emission zones, support from EU funds, and the use of zero-emission vehicles, emphasizing the need for logistics companies and supermarkets to prepare in a timely manner for the implementation of new requirements.
As Armands Gūtmanis, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Sustainability Cluster, pointed out:
“Directives on emission reduction are in force! The AFIR regulation on alternative fuel infrastructure must be complied with. The sustainability reports of Latvian companies must include a section on emissions from suppliers. Transport companies must gradually transition to zero-emission vehicles. The sustainability reports of Latvian companies must include a section on emissions from suppliers.”
Gūtmanis also emphasized that although Latvia currently does not have any support instruments for zero-emission cargo and utility vehicles, other countries are already taking active steps in this direction. For example, Sweden plans to achieve that 50% of newly registered trucks will be powered by electric power by 2030, while Poland has already developed a large-budget EU fund support program for zero-emission vehicles.
